Andrej Hrausky
The architect Andrej Hrausky graduated from the Ljubljana Faculty of Architecture under the renowned Slovenian architect and professor Edvard Ravnikar in 1976. Already during his studies, he became a member of the editorial board of the journal Arhitektov bilten or AB, where he began publishing research articles. Later on, he ran the DESSA architectural gallery in Ljubljana for twenty-five years and staged over two hundred architectural exhibitions in Slovenia and abroad. He engaged intensively in writing architecture articles and delivering talks, and also published articles on Slovenian architecture in many research journals abroad. He has authored or co-authored several books on the designs of Jože Plečnik, Max Fabiani, and others, and on Ljubljana’s architecture, as well as various exhibition catalogues. When he was appointed an expert member of the working group that prepared the documentation for entering “Plečnik’s Ljubljana” on the UNESCO World Heritage List, he again delved deeply into the Slovenian architect’s work. His 2016 book Simboli v Plečnikovi arhitekturi (The Symbolism of Jože Plečnik’s Architecture) was followed by another one, Plečnikova arhitektura v Ljubljani (Plečnik’s Architecture in Ljubljana), in 2017, presenting all Plečnik’s architectural designs in Ljubljana and the circumstances in which they were created. Despite the general awareness of the greatness of Slovenia’s most important architect, his work is still insufficiently known and understood.
